PROLOGUE/PRE-CREDITS SEQUENCE
'So, where to begin? I suppose I had best start at the beginning, with the discovery of the datacore buried in the Andaman islands. Local legends say it fell from a shooting star in 1934, but that's not what happened. It was an alien ship, burning up in the atmosphere, and a large chunk of it fell onto the Earth's surface. UNIT located it, and after several centuries finally managed to interpret it with help from their scientific advisor, the Doctor, in the year 2674. The data described a device consrtucted by an ancient race known as the Constructors of Destiny, an 'Astria Porta', which apparently led to the city of Olympus. This 'Astria Porta' was located in the crater of Mount Bosavi, in Papua New Guinea. An expedition was dispatched to Bosavi to unearth the Astria Porta, and to try and make it work. To cut a long story short, they succeeded with the aid of the Library of Ottiria, who had engineered a device which would activate the Constructor technology. They never did say how they knew to make it, and made it clear they weren't going to. Suffice it to say, the device worked, and Homeworld Command sent an expedition through the Astria Porta, which I was asked to lead. And so we arrived at the ruined city of Olympus, on Maranda, in the Andromeda galaxy. However, the damage to the city was such that we were unable to return to Earth. After a year of being stranded in Andromeda, we managed to repair the Astria Porta enough to recontact Earth. Then, after a few years of our expedition, the Daleks invaded Andromeda. The civilisations of Andromeda were mostly untechnologically advaced, and fell easily. Miranda only remains standing because it is isolated, and we think the Daleks want to use the Astria Porta to reach Earth. Even as I record this, the observation posts across Olympus report hundreds of thousands of Dalek ships massing on the edge of the solar system. I must go. May God have mercy on my soul, and the souls of all my men.
From the journal of Commander Alec Vimes, Olympus Expedition

The Doctor tapped the console, his brow creased. "That can't be right..." He reached for the controls, twisting levers and resetting the coordinates. "Ace!" he called over his shoulder, "There's been a change of plan..."

"We're not going to Ottiria any more," the Doctor said, as the TARDIS began to shake, "Sorry, old girl," he addressed the machine, "I know you're not used to travelling at these speeds, but we need to catch that matter beam," he turned back to Ace, "We ran across a matter beam in space - the thing that transmits you between two transmats. It's signature doesn't match anything I've seen before."

"DID THE MATTER BEAM WORK?" asked Davros admiring his creatures. "of cpurse, the TARDIS will soon be here," smirked Davros's assistant. "EXCELLENT. ONCE THE NEW ARMY OF DALEKS WILL BE CREATED OVER THE DOCTOR'S DEAD BODY!"

The TARDIS landed, displaying the image of a dark corridor. "Hmm," the Doctor said, "The usual then," he picked up his umberella, "Come along Ace." He reached for the door lever.

"Yes, sorry about that," the Doctor said as he left the TARDIS, "But at least this time, I know what I'm looking for. This way, I think..."

"Lost? Ace, I'm surprised you could think such a thing!" the Doctor appeared more amused than offended, "I have an excellent sense of direction!" he paused, seeming to listen for a second, "Yes, it's definitely this way..."

"Whatever happened to your spirit of adventure, Ace? The girl who took on a Dalek with a baseball bat frightened of some shadows?" They continued down the corridor, until they found themselves on a balcony halfway up a tall tower. The planet was rocky and mountainous, apart from the lake below them, in which a city stood. It consisted of hundreds of towers rising from a series of piers built into the lake. "That is quite a view," the Doctor said. The balcony led along the side of the tower, then became a bridge crossing a void to the much taller tower at the centre of the city. The Doctor looked along it, "That way, I think..."

"THE EMBRYO'S ARE FINISHED. HOW IS THE ARMOURS COMING A LONG!" ordered Davros. " I can only find tin," moaned the assistant. "THEN USE THAT. ANYTHING TO GET AN ARMY OF DALEKS. DO WE HAVE THE FACULTIES TO MAKE A DEATH RAY?" "yes," replied the assistant. "EXCELLENT. NOW WE CAN BEGIN!"

"Along this balcony," the Doctor said, "To investigate wierd matter transportation which shouldn't be available to the science of this century."

"Ah..." the Doctor said, as he and Ace turned a corner and found themselves facing some heavily armed men. "Keep your hands where we can see them," said one of the men, "Johnson, bring them."
